Why Atlanta Nightlife Is Suffering And How I’ll Try To Fix It (Though I’m Not A Social Superman)

A commenter on my last post brought up a very good point – one that many people in Atlanta feel, yet refuse to discuss:

…Atlanta nightlife is on life support @ the current moment & has been for quite sometime. I can’t put my finger on it but something significant seems to be missing in the entire nightlife experience. I don’t know if it lack of options or quality promoters & venues. Myself & many of my peers feel in a state of limbo weekly w/ lack of good options. Don’t do hood clubs anymore, turned off by the whole “Black Hollywood” scene as well. Not enough mixed crowd clubs because of segregation in the ATL.. its sad.

The “something significant” is fairly complex, but I’ll try to give the simple answer here (along with a proposed solution). And I know that I never wrote the “Technology is Killing Your Nightlife” post.

My hypothesis is there are tons of events in Atlanta where, on a daily basis, you can have a solid-to-great time. The problem is finding them.

Technology has driven down promotional costs, flooding the market with events (many of them sub-par), while creating a seriously fragmented market. That’s why, despite all of the people in Atlanta, you see the same people at all of the events. And this problem is being repeated in cities all over America.

The signal-to-noise ratio is way too low.

Well, What Are YOU Going To About It, Joey?

Glad you asked. Though I’m not super excited about solving problem, it still feels under my “saving the world” mantra. At DIGITALGUESTLIST, we’re changing things up to make it easier for people to discover and access events where they’ll have the most fun.

Having a healthy social life leads to more happiness, and thus, a better life. And I just want people to be happy.
