Funny thing happened last fall during all of those Crown Royal Affairs in Atlanta, Tallahassee, and Orlando….a movement was born. For the first time, a consistent set of events were organized by a high-quality brand specifically for those in the 23-35 year old age bracket – not the college students and not the old heads (no offense). With events that featured comp drinks, celeb deejays, and free admission, I saw the future of fund raising and it is wrapped in social events.

I’ll offer you a social contract: we give you cool events that are either free or don’t cost too much (subsidized by national and local sponsors) and you help to eliminate one of the university’s many needs by donating. Got it? Good…

So here’s the overly ambitious plan (it’s early so these plans are subject to change):

In mid-August, we’ll kick off the fall event season in Tallahassee with (1) Guest List Only sponsored by a brand many people have been clamoring for since November. As with all Young Alumni Movement events, there is a social cause component. I’ll keep the drinks and admission free, but I help identifying a need within the university.

Six weeks later, young alumni will converge on Atlanta to show the city which school truly dominates the HBCU landscape. I’ve linked up with Jay Carter (Sol Fusion), Keshia Walker (Insights Marketing), Aaron Arnold (MusicIsMyBusiness), Jimmy Jones (ATL2Nite.com), and Mitch Brooks for what is, conceptually at least, a helluva weekend. On (2) Thursday September 24th, Jay, Jimmy, Mitch and I are pulling together a FAMUANS in Entertainment (F.A.M.E.) mixer where we’ll honor several alums who’ve made significant strides in the entertainment industry and hopefully award a few scholarships to current students interested in entertainment. Friday September 25th will bring the much anticipated (3) Young Alumni Affair, a grand party hosted by some of the most influential alums from the last 10 years. After the game, I’m teaming up with Aaron and Keshia for an intimate session of (5) Guest List Only, an event exclusively for Young Alumni Movement host committee members from across the nation, university officials, corporate sponsors, and Atlanta influencers.

Four weeks after the Atlanta Classic, we’ll venture back down to Tallahassee for Homecoming for what looks to be a set of four events. Thursday evening will feature a (5) silent auction supported by F.A.M.E. Friday will feature a (6) Pre-Step Show Happy Hour and a (7) Young Alumni Affair later that night. On (8) Saturday after the game, I’ll team up with Keisha Walker and Pat Nix (Front Line Promotions) for a super huge alumni party.

Hold up, I need to catch my breath….

Ok, I’m good. We’ll end the 2009 Young Alumni Movement Tour in Orlando during the Florida Classic. Details are a little sketchy, but you can bet on a (9) Friday and (10) Saturday event for young alumni. Why? Because we deserve a kick-a$$ time.

I’ll be describing the event planning process pretty much every day for the next 5 months via an assortment of social media tools. If you or your brand would like to be integrated into our events (this is how we keep the events free/, please contact me via email, Facebook, or Twitter.

Would love to partner on the events scheduled. I am an officially licensed vendor of FAMU paraphernalia. Check out my website at http://www.cameronsgear.com. Go Rattlers! If there are any FAMU/FSU College of Engineering Alums out there, we would like to start gearing in on our class reunion. Hopefully, we can make a big impact as far as fundraising for the university!
